Project Name: Illinois Transfer Station
Project Scope: New Build, Design & Construction
Timeframe: Eighteen (18) months
Description: The Illinois Transfer Station is situated on a unique site beneath three high-tension power line towers.
Through consultations between the client and the design team, it was determined that the site needed to be lowered 4’ in order to meet the 30’ clearance requirement of the power lines by Commonwealth Edison. The high-tension utility wires also dictated the unique stepped roof profile of the building.
The site circulation was designed based on computer truck traffic modeling. By using computer modeling, we were able to maximize the building size on a tight site. This project provides much-needed transfer capacity to a currently under-served area, allowing for more efficient operations.
